Mystic Bottled in Bond Featured in Award Winning Cocktail
Thanks to Jessica Rosabi we are finalists in the NC Restaurant & Lodging Association Cocktail Showdown 2022. Jessica swept the first round with her beautiful and complex Booze, Blues & BBQ. Here’s the details on how it’s done:
"Booze, Blues, & BBQ"
1.5 oz Mystic Bottled in Bond Bourbon
1 oz blueberry BBQ shrub
.5 oz fresh squeezed lemon juice
3 dashes orange bitters
"The only BBQ the East and West agree on."
In Eastern-style barbeque, the meat is the star; here it is the bourbon. The spice of the sauce pairs well with the sweet North Carolina blueberries while still letting the bourbon shine. Similar to the role of BBQ sauce, the shrub compliments the flavor of the spirit rather than competes with it. This cocktail is a balance of uncommon flavors representing the essence of Eastern North Carolina.
BBQ sauce:
2 cups apple cider vinegar
1.5 tbsp white sugar
1 tsp honey
1 tsp fresh diced cayenne pepper
1 tsp cayenne powder
1 tsp red pepper flakes
1 tsp hot sauce
1 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt
Add all ingredients to a pot and bring to a simmer while stirring occasionally.
Keep at a simmer for 10 minutes then remove from heat and allow to cool for 5 min
Store for a minimum of 48 hours before straining and using in shrub.
Shrub:
2 c blueberries
2 c sugar
6 oz BBQ sauce
Macerate blueberries and sugar using gloved hands, potato masher, or some other mashing tool
Once blueberries and sugar are combined, add in BBQ sauce and stir.
Refrigerate for one week before straining out solids.
