Sustainability

At Mystic, we are committed to sustainably creating our world class spirits and preserving the farmland, aquifer and forests we depend on. Here’s a few ways we work to operate in harmony with our environment.

1. We have a 50kw solar power system, making us the largest solar powered bourbon distillery in the world. Our system saves many tons of carbon emissions each month, and adds renewables to our local grid.

2. Our grain is local: We grow 100% of the grain we use to create our bourbon. Our grain is grown on 108 leased acres near Hillsborough, so it travels only a short distance from the field. We farm sustainably with a deep respect for the land.

3. We operate with zero-waste in our production process: Our mashing and distilling process uses only natural ingredients and 100% of our spent mash goes to feed animals on a family farm nearby. This nutritious mix of yeast and grain solids provides a valuable source of feed and offsets grain usage.

4. We source locally and regionally: Our recycled cardboard boxes, sustainable Appalachian oak barrels, locally printed labels and recycled pallets are just a few examples of ways that we strive to reduce, reuse and recycle whenever possible.

5. We respect our aquifer by limiting our water use, and operating on a continuous, slow-draw cycle to maintain this incredible resource for all the generations to come.

As one of the world’s leading craft spirits producers we have always focused on doing things the right way and learning from our experiences on the land. We are committed to preserving the superior water, farms and forests that make our spirits the best on earth.
